Psychoneuroimmunology, Vitality and Nutrition
Scientists, mystics and anyone who has studied the body will tell you that it is one of the most complex, beautiful and fascinating things in this universe.
Some would even argue that we ARE the universe.
Without moving too far into the space of esoteric nature, I will explain how I have come to understand the interconnectedness of these three terms.
The word “Psychoneuroimmunology” (coined by Robert Ader. In 1975) is the study of the interaction between psychological processes, the nervous system and how it affects the immune systems of the body. In Layman’s terms, it is essentially the way the brain and the gut are connected.
The first step in understanding PNI (psychoneuroimmunology) is how psychological issues can either promote or destroy our gut health. This is how nutrition begins playing a more critical and impactful role in our decision-making and day-to-day lives.
Nutrition is; inevitably one of the main keys to sustaining vitality throughout our lives.
All food has energy and some experts in the field will call food “electric” depending on what it is someone is consuming. To go against the SAD (Standard American Diet) is to eat mostly fruits, vegetables and legumes. The key to reaching optimal nutrition levels is to stay away from anything overly processed and with preservatives.
We eat better > to feel better > to live better.
This is where vitality sets in. What does vitality mean in an embodied state?
The definition of vitality is the state of being strong and active; energy.
Energy is in everything we do.
It means living optimally. Feeling enough energy to conquer the day. Loving what you do. Incorporating movement into one’s livelihood. Normalizing slowness and eating meals with your loved ones. Loving who you are around. It means to find enjoyment and purpose in your life.
Vitality to me, is how we find the energy to do LIFE.
Without vitality we create more scarcity, we build from a space of negligence and survival.
To discover vitality through nutrition and how the brain processes everything is how we create and sustain positive energy in our lives.
